oh yeah, i forgot i had a tumblr…
My reaction to recent Doctor Who spoilers (Under the read more due to length and the fact that some people don’t like the whole “spoiler thing”)
So the rumour is that we’re getting a new TARDIS control room. There are pictures and tweets floating around all corners of the interwebs about it.
First, the photo that BBC America’s Tumblr page posted. The post itself doesn’t say much. It’s just a picture with the caption of “???”. The picture is what I can assume is the top of the console. There are Circuliar Gallifreyan symbols written in tile and scatted on the wall. They are very intricate patterns- names perhaps? I don’t speak Gallifreyan so I could not tell you. Perhaps that will be revealed to us as time goes on.
At first I was deeply appalled at the idea of the TARDIS changing. I love that TARDIS- mostly because it fit the Doctor’s personality. It had that whimsical and childlike glee and that Matt Smith brought to the character. This TARDIS, at least from what the picture shows, seems a bit colder and darker than the past two TARDIS’ (TARDI? TARDISES?) that were shown in the remake. Having this TARDIS would prove that everything is going to change with his character.
And then it hit me. The Doctor isn’t going to be the same person that he once was. He’s not going to act like a two year old and be the same person (okay to be technical alien- you get my drift regardless) that he was in season five. And let’s ignore what happened in TATM for five minutes (Is it too soon to make those kinds of references?). I don’t know about you, but I felt like I missed a lot when I turned in to watch the first half series seven, because I barely recognized the Doctor at some points. Sure he had his moments where he was fun and utterly goofy, but there were others when he seemed dark and cold and well…not Doctory. Did Christopher Eccleston come back without us realizing I’ve heard a lot of theories about why this might be, but that’s a post for another time. Something happened to the Doctor that we don’t know about. Or maybe we do know? The point is, something happened in the Doctor’s timeline in between AotD and TATM that changed the Doctor. Plus you take into consideration that he just lost the Ponds? He’s got a boatload (or should I say TARDISload) of guilt on both of his hearts. So of course he is going to act different. He’s not going to want to have the same TARDIS that Amelia and Rory stayed in- they were the only companions that went inside that version.
It seems as though the last half of series seven is about change. New costumes. New companion. New mindset for the Doctor. And now, a new TARDIS.
I am so frickin excited for the new episodes…
